PRIMARY TWO LITERACY TWO TEACHERS GUIDE

Primary Two Literacy Two builds early scientific curiosity, personal health awareness, and basic environmental understanding through a practical, child-centered approach. Aligned with the National Curriculum Development Centre (NCDC) thematic syllabus, this course connects core science and health concepts to the learner's daily experiences at home and school. By making observations, exploring local surroundings, and practicing daily life skills, pupils develop healthy habits, learn environmental care, and build a strong foundation for future scientific inquiry.

What Learners Will Study Throughout the course, learners will explore practical thematic units covering elementary science, health, and agriculture:

• Human Body & Personal Hygiene: Identifying external body parts and their functions, practicing personal cleanliness (washing hands, brushing teeth, bathing), and caring for senses.
• Sanitation & Health: Keeping the home and classroom clean, proper waste disposal, identifying common vectors (flies, mosquitoes), and basic prevention of common illnesses.
• Plants & Animals in Our Environment: Identifying common domestic and wild animals, basic parts of plants, uses of plants and animals, and how to care for living things.
• Weather & Our Environment: Observing elements of weather (sun, rain, wind, clouds), recognizing seasonal changes, and understanding how weather affects our daily activities and clothing.
• Accidents & Safety: Recognizing common dangers at home, at school, and along the road, understanding basic safety rules, and learning simple first-aid responses.
• Basic Energy & Matter: Exploring uses of light, water, air, and sound in everyday life through simple hands-on observations
