Primary Five Social Studies deepens learners' understanding of their country, focusing on the overarching theme, "Living Together in Uganda." Aligned with the National Curriculum Development Centre (NCDC) syllabus, this course integrates geography, history, civics, and economics to help pupils explore Uganda's physical environment, rich cultural heritage, and socio-economic activities. Through practical map work, historical inquiry, and civic discussions, learners foster national pride, appreciate unity in diversity, and build foundational skills for active, responsible citizenship.

What Learners Will Study Throughout the course, learners will explore key thematic units focused on Uganda:

  • Location and Physical Features of Uganda: Map reading skills, locating Uganda using lines of latitude and longitude, grid references, major relief features, drainage systems, climate, and vegetation zones.
  • The People of Uganda: Major ethnic groups, migration patterns, settlement areas, social organizations, cultural values, and historical leadership before colonial rule.
  • Foreign Influence and Colonialism in Uganda: Early traders, explorers, missionaries, chartered companies, the establishment of colonial rule, agreement signing, and Uganda's journey to independence.
  • Economic Activities in Uganda: Utilization of land, farming systems, fishing, forestry, mining, trade, tourism, transport, and communication networks supporting national development.
  • Governance and Civic Responsibilities: Structure of government (Executive, Legislature, Judiciary), the constitution, democratic processes, human rights, duties of a citizen, and public social services.
