Welcome to Senior Six Economics, a subject that helps you understand how individuals, businesses, governments, and nations make decisions about the use of limited resources to satisfy unlimited human wants. Economics is not simply about money—it is the study of choices, opportunities, production, consumption, trade, employment, development, and the efficient management of scarce resources.
As you complete your Advanced Level studies, you will discover that economic principles explain many of the issues affecting Uganda and the world today, including inflation, unemployment, poverty, taxation, government budgeting, international trade, environmental sustainability, technological change, and economic development. Every household, business, and government faces economic decisions, making Economics one of the most practical and relevant subjects you can study.
The Competence-Based Curriculum encourages you to move beyond memorising facts. Instead, you will investigate real-life economic challenges, analyse data, interpret graphs and statistics, evaluate policies, solve practical problems, and propose innovative solutions to improve communities and national development. Throughout this course, you will engage in discussions, case studies, research, projects, and problem-solving activities that strengthen your critical thinking, communication, creativity, collaboration, and decision-making skills.
Uganda is a country blessed with abundant natural and human resources. However, achieving sustainable economic growth and improved standards of living requires informed decisions by citizens, entrepreneurs, and policy makers. By studying Economics, you will gain the knowledge and competencies needed to contribute meaningfully to your family, community, and the nation's transformation.
This Senior Six course builds on the concepts learned in previous years while introducing more advanced economic analysis. You will explore topics such as economic development strategies, international trade, public finance, monetary and fiscal policy, population dynamics, employment, regional integration, environmental economics, and contemporary global economic issues. These concepts will help you understand how economies function and prepare you for higher education, entrepreneurship, public service, business, finance, research, and many other careers.
As you study this course, remain curious, ask thoughtful questions, analyse evidence, and relate every concept to everyday life. Economics is all around us—from the prices we pay in the market, to the businesses we support, the jobs we pursue, the taxes we pay, and the policies that shape our country's future.
We invite you to approach this course with enthusiasm, discipline, and an open mind. By the end of Senior Six, you will not only have mastered important economic concepts but also developed the competencies required to become a responsible citizen, an informed decision-maker, and an active contributor to Uganda's sustainable development.
Welcome to the fascinating world of Economics—where every choice matters, every resource counts, and every informed decision has the power to transform lives.
