CHRISTIAN RELIGIOUS EDUCATION SENIOR FIVE LEARNER’S GUIDE

Christian Religious Education at Advanced Level is a subject that helps learners understand the Christian faith, its foundations, teachings, values, and relevance to daily life. In Senior Five, CRE goes beyond memorising biblical stories. It guides learners to think critically about scripture, morality, society, leadership, human dignity, justice, service, and responsible living.

Under the competence-based curriculum, CRE encourages learners to connect Christian teachings with real-life situations in Uganda and the wider world. Learners are supported to analyse biblical texts, interpret Christian beliefs, discuss ethical issues, and apply religious values to personal, family, school, community, and national life.

The subject also helps learners develop important competencies such as critical thinking, communication, empathy, problem-solving, collaboration, moral reasoning, and responsible decision-making. Through studying CRE, learners are prepared to become people of integrity who respect others, serve their communities, promote peace, and contribute positively to society.

CRE therefore is not only about knowing God’s word, but also about living it. It invites learners to reflect on their faith, understand the teachings of Jesus Christ, appreciate Christian history and tradition, and use religious knowledge to build a more just, compassionate, and responsible society.
