Geography is the study of the relationship between people and their environment. It helps learners understand the physical features of the Earth, human activities, and the interactions between society and the environment at local, regional, and global levels.
At Senior Five level, Geography under the Competency Based Curriculum aims at developing learners who are critical thinkers, problem solvers, responsible citizens, and skilled researchers capable of addressing real-life geographical challenges. The subject equips learners with practical skills in observation, interpretation, data collection, map reading, fieldwork, analysis, and decision-making.
Through the study of topics such as physical environments, population dynamics, economic activities, climate change, urbanisation, transport, trade, and sustainable resource management, learners gain a deeper understanding of the world around them and the role they can play in promoting sustainable development.
The course encourages inquiry, creativity, collaboration, communication, and the application of geographical knowledge to everyday life. Learners are expected to actively participate in field studies, discussions, projects, and research activities that build competence for further education, employment, and responsible citizenship.
