WOODWORK SENIOR FIVE TEACHERS’ GUIDE

Senior Five (S.5) Woodwork (often classified under Woodwork Technology or Wood Technology and Design) marks the introduction to Advanced Level (A-Level) technical studies. At this level, the curriculum transitions from basic lower secondary introduction to advanced structural design, material engineering, and complex production.

Key Technical Skills Acquired in S.5

1. Advanced Joinery: Going beyond simple butt joints into high-stress framing joints, widening joints (tongue and groove), and decorative veneering.
2. Wood Turning & Carving: Utilizing the wood lathe safely to shape cylindrical parts (like table legs) and using gouges/chisels for relief carving.
3. Machine Operation: Transitioning from hand tools to full machine usage (setting blade depths, using push sticks safely, and utilizing jigs).
