PRIMARY THREE LITERACY TWO LEARNERS GUIDE

Primary Three Literacy Two focuses on building foundational scientific knowledge and practical health literacy, laying the groundwork for upper-primary Integrated Science. Aligned with the National Curriculum Development Centre (NCDC) syllabus, this course uses a thematic, inquiry-based approach to connect core science concepts to the learner's everyday environment. By observing, investigating, and discussing real-world examples, pupils develop healthy habits, learn environmental responsibility, and gain a basic understanding of how biological and physical systems function.

What Learners Will Study Throughout the course, learners will explore essential thematic units covering science, health, and agriculture within their sub-county:

• Our Environment: Components of the environment (living and non-living things), soil types, soil uses, air, and water sources and uses.
• Plant and Animal Life: Common plants in the sub-county, parts of a flowering plant, domestic and wild animals, animal care, and the uses of plants and animals.
• Sanitation and Hygiene: Personal cleanliness, maintaining a clean home and school environment, proper disposal of waste, and latrine/toilet hygiene.
• Common Diseases and Health: Identifying common childhood diseases, vectors (like mosquitoes and houseflies), prevention methods, immunizable diseases, and basic first-aid rules.
• Weather and Energy: Simple weather conditions, measuring weather elements, basic uses of heat, light, and sound energy in daily life.
• Accidents and Safety: Identifying dangerous objects and situations at home, on the road, and at school, along with safety precautions and reporting emergencies.
