Introduction to Agriculture – Senior One. Agriculture is the backbone of Uganda’s economy. Today, 40 million acres are under farming, up from 8 million in 1997. Over 70% of Ugandans work in agriculture, mainly in subsistence farming, and the sector contributes more than 25% of GDP.

Uganda’s Vision 2040 aims to shift from subsistence to commercial agriculture – making farming profitable, competitive, and sustainable. This will boost food and income security and create jobs in production, processing, and marketing, with special focus on aquaculture and livestock.

This syllabus builds agricultural literacy: teaching you skills and knowledge to manage natural resources wisely, understand farming systems, and play your part in Uganda’s agricultural transformation.
