Welcome to Senior Six Clothing and Textiles under Uganda’s Advanced Secondary Competence Based Curriculum.

Senior Six builds on the practical knowledge and skills developed in Senior Five and takes learners to a more advanced level of garment construction, furnishing, textile and fashion industry studies, and entrepreneurship. The subject continues to emphasise practical competence, creativity, innovation and the application of skills to real-life situations.

In Term One, learners study Garment Construction – Part II, with emphasis on the construction of adult garments for both women and men. They also develop competence in alterations, neatening and modelling so that garments can be improved, adjusted and finished to acceptable standards.

In Term Two, learners move into Soft Furnishings and the Development of the Textile, Clothing and Fashion Industry. They learn construction techniques for soft furnishings, explore interior-space design, study fashion trends and fashion cycles, examine the history of textiles and clothing in Uganda and worldwide, and investigate the evolution of textiles across different cultures.

Term Three focuses on Marketing Quality Textile Products. Learners study quality control in garment production, including correct stitching, thread tension, neatening of raw edges and garment fitting. They also learn how to cost, price, market and sell textile products, helping them connect technical clothing skills with enterprise and income generation.

The Senior Six course remains strongly learner-centred and practical. Learners are expected to investigate, design, construct, evaluate and improve products through inquiry, experiential learning, projects, case studies and independent practice. These approaches are intended to strengthen problem-solving, research, creativity and reflective thinking.

Clothing and Textiles at this level also prepares learners for further education, employment and self-employment. The syllabus develops scientific, technological and commercial skills while promoting productive work, creativity, appreciation of Uganda’s cultural heritage and respect for the dignity of labour.

By the end of Senior Six, learners should be increasingly able to construct quality adult garments, create soft furnishings, analyse trends in the textile and fashion industry, apply quality-control principles, cost and price products, and market textile items effectively.

Welcome to Senior Six Clothing and Textiles — where creativity, skill, quality and enterprise come together to prepare learners for life, work and further study.
