Technical Drawing is a practical and creative subject that helps learners communicate ideas through accurate lines, symbols, measurements, shapes, and diagrams. It is a universal language used in engineering, architecture, design, construction, manufacturing, technology, and many other fields where clear visual communication is required.
This Senior Five Learner’s Guide has been developed to introduce learners to the essential knowledge, skills, and attitudes needed to study Technical Drawing at Advanced Level. It supports learners in developing accuracy, neatness, patience, observation, logical thinking, creativity, and problem-solving abilities.
In line with the Competence Based Curriculum, this guide encourages learners to go beyond drawing for examination purposes. It helps them apply drawing skills to real-life situations such as interpreting plans, designing simple structures, visualising objects, solving spatial problems, preparing working drawings, and communicating technical ideas clearly.
Learners will be guided through important areas such as geometrical construction, lettering, dimensioning, sketching, orthographic projection, isometric drawing, sectional views, scales, and the proper use of drawing instruments. Through practice activities, illustrations, examples, and assessment tasks, learners will gain confidence in producing clear, accurate, and meaningful drawings.
As learners use this guide, they are encouraged to work carefully, follow instructions, practise regularly, keep their drawings neat, and pay attention to detail. Technical Drawing rewards precision, discipline, creativity, and persistence. With commitment and practice, learners will acquire skills that are useful not only in school, but also in future careers, innovation, entrepreneurship, and national development.
