ADVANCED PHYSICS SENIOR FIVE LEARNER’S GUIDE

Welcome to Advanced Level Physics, a subject that explores the fundamental principles governing matter, energy, space, and time. Physics helps us understand how the natural world works by explaining everything from the motion of planets and satellites to the operation of mobile phones, medical equipment, electrical systems, and modern transportation.

At Senior Five, you will build upon the scientific knowledge acquired at lower secondary level and develop a deeper understanding of mechanics, waves, electricity, magnetism, thermal physics, modern physics, and practical investigations. The Competency-Based Curriculum emphasizes not only acquiring scientific knowledge but also developing practical skills, critical thinking, creativity, problem-solving, communication, collaboration, and innovation.

Throughout this course, you will carry out experiments, analyse real-life situations, interpret scientific data, design simple investigations, and apply physical principles to solve everyday challenges facing individuals, communities, and the nation. You will also appreciate how Physics contributes to technological advancement, industrial development, environmental sustainability, healthcare, agriculture, engineering, communication, and Uganda's socio-economic transformation.
